One of my passions in business is something I call Zen Business. It is the idea that we bring our meditation/spiritual side to the center of all that we do, including our work. What good is sitting for endless hours each year on a cushion if you aren't going to apply what you learn to your everyday life.
It sprung up years ago when I was working for a large firm in San Francisco that was laying people off left and right with no real plan. They didn't seem to be acting from a place of kindness or care to people that had been part of the company for some time. At that time I was reading Sylvia Boornstein's book about the Eightfold Path. For those that aren't inclined to Buddhism it is basically a set of ideas to lead a life of kindness.
I kept thinking how we could do that in this situation.
Fast forward 8 years and I am now teaching a workshop on those ideas in October at the Healing Path Expo in Eureka Springs, AR. The course will be a practical workshop giving tools that you can actually use in the workplace.
"Do you feel out of balance with your work/life? Do you have to work with people who are difficult? Are you at odds with your spiritual self and your business self? Are you seeking practical ways to live a full life in balance? Experience a session with novice meditator, Jacqueline Wolven, as she leads you through practical solutions to living in balance. This workshop will include exercises to practice bringing our ultimate self to the workplace and our lives, meditation techniques, resources to explore, and group work to deal with the difficult moments we all experience through our work."
