Back to #Reverb10: Prompt: Appreciate. What's the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?
This was easy. My husband. We have been together over 21 years, and although it has not always been easy, he said something this year that changed how I see everything. We were in the middle of a fight. He had left and come back. He said, "It's cold outside. I have nowhere to go. And I love you."
It was so simple. It was cold outside. I don't have anywhere to go either. And I love him.
I don't want to be anywhere he isn't, even when it is hard. He is moody. I am moody. I don't like dealing with emotional crap and he does. We are the best of each other - even when we aren't behaving very well. It isn't perfect, but it isn't horrible either. He loves me and isn't that what we most want. We want someone who loves you even when they would rather not. Even when the sight of us makes them crazy. Even when life is messy.
So, I try to say thank you. Thank you for the cinnamon toast. Thank you for putting gas in the car. Thank you for listening to me. Thank you for not making fun of me. Thank you for loving me every moment of every day. The more I say thank you the more I realize how much he means to me. Sure, I love him, but it is in remembering to say thank you for the millions of little things that he does that reminds me everyday.
