Despite the fray of yesterdays blog post - and the numerous comments - I am undeterred. My mind has not been swayed. The interesting thing about that is I don't think argument, dialog, discussion, really anything other than personal experience does convince a person to change their position.
So, are we talking just to talk? Are we trying desperately to be the one that is right? Don't we all think we are right? If personal experience is what really changes us I doubt it will happen that a theist will convince me that there is a god. I also doubt that I will convince them there isn't. And yet we feel the need to defend our position.
When I blog I am just sharing (spouting) my thoughts. I would LOVE to have people agree with me - that would further allow my sense of "right" to be validated, but if you don't agree it usually just pushes my feet further into the sand until I will not budge. My mother said I was a stubborn child - apparently that hasn't changed.
It seems to me that we are all SCREAMING our positions because we ALL feel unheard. I think, perhaps, that may be because we all have a new medium for sharing our thoughts. There is just so many opinions, thoughts, ideas, and feelings to be read and written that perhaps we feel we have to shout above the fray. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be moving us closer together. In fact, the divisions are becoming clearer and clearer.
So, is all this sharing good for us?
