I don't have an actual spiritual practice. I have taken meditation classes, journaling your spirit, yoga, chanting, Wiccan celebrations, and danced the dances of Universal Peace. None of these things stick with me very long.
Well, I shouldn't blame the practice. I don't stick with them very long.
Then I began to think about the practice of gratitude. Just remembering the things each day that I am grateful for. I will tell you that some days this is easier said then done, but when I remember to do it I feel a bit lighter.
Is it a spiritual practice. If you Google Practicing Gratitude you get 322,000 hits. So, I think that qualifies as some kind of practice. It is written about by SARK, Sarah Ban Breathnach, Buddhist monks, and Christian writers of all kinds. It isn't new, but it seems to be helpful. One writer mentioned that in the study of mild depression taking a moment each day to be thankful can lighten the feelings of depression.
So, is this my spiritual practice. Probably not. Is it something I occasionally remember to do, yes. Do I think it is beneficial... most definitely.
