It is amazing what buzz this idea is getting. In an age of globalization and world food choices it is nice to know that people are turning towards home to make their dinners. Because of this idea and the recent scares in pet food & toothpaste due to contaminated foriegn ingredients I sent a letter to Senetor Lincoln (AR) about the idea of having a Food Location Label on each food product. It would say something like: This product contains ingredients from China, Brazil, Mexico and the US.
That way when we choose a product from the grocery store shelf we could decide if we wanted to eat products from that region. Perhaps you didn't support a countries social policies, you wanted to limit your diet to foods to your country of origin, or you just wanted to know where the ingredients from the loaf of bread you were buying came from this label would give you that insight.
It is my belief that we want to be better informed and what better thing to be informed about then the food that we eat. If you can't grow all of your own food or you want to purchase a mix of items at your local grocery store I think you have the right to know what it is you are eating.
Then again, Ms. Lincoln hasn't gotten back to me on my brilliant idea so perhaps you will never know.
