I received two amazing gifts this week. The first gift arrived yesterday in the mail. My husband called to tell me there was a box for me on the front porch. I was so excited. I knew that it had to be from my Year Long Swap partner. We were both a bit late sending our January "getting to know you" giftys. Thank goodness we are both busy women with hectic schedules. I would feel so guilty if she was wrapped and ready to go and I was still scrambling to get it together.
Well, I came home from work, fixed dinner, cleaned a bit, did some laundry, and just before bed I sat in my chair and opened my gift. It was PERFECT. She sent me gifts with the idea of RELAXATION. Now My Sparkly Girl and I don't have to fight over the nail clippers (she has her own set and now so do I). The bracelet that she made out of the most delicate pink beads is just beautiful. It fits just perfectly. The frame was the right size for me to put a picture of my great grandmother and grandfather that my mother sent me. I was just a such a joy to feel so special on what was really a mostly average day. This is going to be a great year of swapping. I can tell.
The second gift was an email that I received today from the author Kristin Nicholas. She is the author of Colorful Stitchery. I have been devouring this book and added it to my Reading list on my site to share with other folks. She saw that it was on my site and sent the sweetest note. She worked on the book for over a year and it was truly a labor of love. The projects are inspiring and the work is truly magical, but it is the colors that knock my socks off. They are so vivid and bright. She takes a traditional craft and turns it up a notch.
I have always wanted to be the woman that writes to the author to say thank you for that special book, it changed how I see the world. But because of time, general slacker behavior, and hectic moments I haven't been that kind of woman. Can you imagine my surprise when an author I admire writes to me? I was just tickled with happiness. I had the opportunity to say thank you. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for teaching me something new. Thank you for giving me something to share with my daughter. Thank you for doing something that you love and sharing it with the world. Thank you If you haven't had the opportunity to look through Colorful Stitchery order it or borrow it from your local library. It is truly something beautiful to behold.
Life is wonderful. Thank you for helping me to remember that Kristen & Caroline.
