I really struggle with keeping a business identity/blog and a personal blog - trying to keep them in separate boxes. The truth is I don't keep up with my business blog very well and I have been thinking about the best thing to do about that. I want you to understand how important small business is to me, but on the other hand I am not interested in regurgitating business information - you can search that out for yourself.
This struggle is one I see played out over and over online. Do people share too much? Do they abandon their blog all together because they get to busy - a TRUTH for small business and micro-enterprise. Do they blend it all together?
My personal blog is wide open - and I have quite a few followers there. I write about living simply (we scaled back 10 years ago and left the city for the countryside), religion (I am a Unitarian Universalist), family, relationships, things I care about, things that bug me... a typical personal blog. What I don't do is talk about business there because I don't think my readers would be interested. And I don't talk here much at all because I am busy SERVING my clients that I only have spurts of time to share online.
What to do? My heart says that I should MAKE time here. I should tell you all the great things that are in my head. I have so many ideas and observations about small and micro businesses that are different then the average crap out there. I also think I should just blend it all together - we aren't compartmentalized people - we are whole human beings who work, play and live in this life.
What do you think? What is your instinct?
Photo: Last month I was highlighted in the Women's section of our local paper as a leader in my community doing work with small businesses. Quite an honor and humbling.
